Other Info: On a Saturday evening In July 1920, while most of the colonists were enjoying the music and dance at the hotel, Mrs. Tackett stepped over to see a neighbor for a few moments. She was surprised, on her return, to see a white man leaving her house with a bundle under his arm. Her first thought was for her baby whom she had left asleep in the house, but the intruder had no use for babies. She sounded the alarm and many from Leesville joined the colonist in the hunt, but the thief was not to be found.
