Madeline (Bradshaw) Van Buskirk  

Birth:  

Family Information: Daughter of Ray and Annette (Emry) Bradshaw.

Sister of Verda Bradshaw.

Married Carl Van Buskirk while living in the colony.

In April 1933 it was reported that she and Carl were the proud parents of a fine new boy -- Donald Ray Van Buskirk.  

Description:  

Pre-Colony History:  

Home in Colony: In 1934 the family were living at the Gila, New Mexico unit of the colony.  

Job in Colony: In 1932 she was helping Winnie (Ogden) Dougherty make pecan candy while Florence Hamel worked nearby at something else.

In November 1933 the Van Buskirk family went to the Gila location to live and work -- Madeline to assist the other women there with cooking for about twenty persons, doing all the laundry, assisting Royal Thompson with the creamery, doing all the housekeeping -- and looking pleasant about it.

Most evenings in June 1934 Hulda, Esther and Martha Mahler entertained her son, Donald Ray, while Madeline and her aunt, Opal Layer, prepared the evening meal.

In November 1930 she was part of the re-organized Girls Glee Club which included: Florence Aiton, Nellie Bradshaw, Verda Bradshaw, Madeline Van Buskirk, Ethel Clark, Zelma De Faussell, Gladys Kimball, Ruth Kittle, Hope Shoemaker, Ruth Shoemaker, Laura Synoground, Dorothy Thompson, Sylvia Tuber and Ruby Nesnow, pianiste.
